Shape and design

Its unique shape alone stands out from all the grain mills on the market. Its perfect proportions radiate harmony from every angle and from every side. Not only that, but due to its shape and motor suspension, it grinds very quietly, quieter than the other hawos mills.

Material

The housing is made of exquisite, solid, steamed beech. Steamed beech is not only darker, but also harder and more stable than unsteamed beech. It reacts less to climate fluctuations and is even more tear-resistant. The finely sanded finish is treated with linseed oil. This gives it its elegant silk-matt shimmer.

Grinding system

hawos uses extremely hard corundum ceramic stones with a diameter of 100 mm, which have proven their worth because of their long life and porous finish ( "self-sharpening" ). Due to their design and precision, the rotating and stationary grindstones are optimally parallel to each other. This allows the finest grinding results to be achieved. The grinding mechanism is mounted on highly elastic bearings and therefore works pleasantly quietly. The grinding fineness is conveniently and easily adjusted with a lever. A scale from 0 - 9 enables precise, reproducible setting.

Drive

As in all hawos mills, an industrial motor operates in the Oktagon 1. This makes the hawos mills suitable for continuous operation and heavy use. 360 watts of power ensure problem-free start-up even when the hopper is full. The robust mains switch is equipped with an overload protection.

Grind

With the Oktagon you can grind all common types of grain such as wheat, spelt, rye, oats, barley, buckwheat. The Octagon 1 is also strong enough for maize ( no popcorn maize! ) and chickpeas. Oilseeds such as sesame and linseed, spices such as caraway, coriander, cloves and finely chopped nuts can be ground in small quantities, larger quantities only when mixed with cereals, otherwise the oil that comes out will smear the grindstones.

The grinding chamber made of food-safe plastic can be opened without tools if it needs to be cleaned.

For the impatient and those who need a more powerful mill due to an increased demand for fresh wholemeal flour, there is the hawos Oktagon grain mill with a more powerful motor as the Oktagon 2 model. This is also slightly higher and offers more space for the flour catcher bowl with its slightly higher flour ejection.
